WISE gives employers up to $26,000 when they offer at least 8 hours a week of ongoing employment to a worker who can’t return to their previous employer after a work-related An injury/disease is work related if it arose out of or in the course of employment and the scope of employment. injury or illness.
Agent pre-approval
WorkSafe Agents need to make sure the worker and new employer are both eligible for WISE, and pre-approve the application.
WISE can be from the date the worker’s weekly hours reach the 8-hour minimum. If the worker has been working with the new employer for less than 8 hours per week, WISE won’t apply until the date they work at least 8 hours a week ongoing.
WISE approval and payments can’t be backdated.
WISE is not transferable
WISE can’t be transferred from one worker to another worker, or from one employer to another employer.
Worker is a direct payee during WISE
The WorkSafe Agent must make the worker a direct payee if they remain entitled to weekly payments during a WISE placement.
